German Order of the NSDAP 1st level neck cross w. laurel wreath / swords + collar ribbon
- Order number: WH-34672
- Shipping weight: 1 kg
The German Order belongs to the group of NSDAP decorations.
From 1943, it was the highest award of the National Socialist German Reich.
The award, founded by Adolf Hitler, was created as a higher-grade version of the NSDAP's Golden Party Badge and was divided into several levels, the highest of which was the "with laurel wreath and swords". A Chapter of the Order, consisting of the Order Council and the Order Court, was also planned for the German Order of the NSDAP.
The 1st level ("with laurel wreath and swords") of the German Order of the NSDAP was first awarded posthumously by Hitler to Fritz Todt on February 12, 1942. According to Hitler, the awarding of this rank was intended to "honor the highest merits [...] that a German can earn for his people", namely for "achievements for which, under certain circumstances, no promotion at all can be awarded. The deeds of 200 Knight's Cross recipients do not outweigh a single achievement such as Todt's."[2]
In total, Hitler awarded the 1st degree of the German Order of the NSDAP to 11 people, whereby the first seven awards were made posthumously. Living persons only received this award from February 1945.
