PRODUCT DETAILS US ARMY WW2 A-11 watch: These are high-quality reproductions of the WW2 A-11 military service watch. Although numerous watches were produced in the USA and issued during the war, the A-11 is perhaps the best known. At the start of the conflict, it was recognised that Allied personnel would need a wristwatch capable of withstanding the rigours of combat. This led to the specification for this watch being issued. Three American watch manufacturers (Elgin, Waltham and Bulova) were commissioned to produce the watches; although manufactured in the US, the A-11 was also in service with the RAF, the RCAF and the Soviet Air Force. All in all, this resulted in a simple, precise, high-quality wristwatch that could withstand the rigours of field use and was easy to maintain. Each watch features: * A black dial with white hour markers. * A quartz movement. * An outer minute track. * A smart stainless steel case with a snap-off bezel. * Luminous hands and numerals for easy reading in low light. * A 23 cm olive-green canvas strap, held in place by spring bars. All watches also had to feature ‘hacking’ (where the second hand stops completely when the crown is pulled out) for easy synchronisation and precise timing. The dial measures 32 mm across, excluding the crown. A flat brown presentation box with silver embossed text. Maximum wrist size: 20.5 cm.
