WW2 British Army MKVII Waterproof Cape / Ground Sheet Rain Cape and Ground Sheet 1945 WD

WW2 British Army Rain Cape.
MKVII British Army olive, waterproof cape/underlay. This is a cape/underlay made from rubberised cotton fabric.
British Army soldiers wore this cape/underlay in the field; it was issued from 1917 until the 1960s.

Later in the Second World War, British soldiers began painting their originally brown capes, as they were highly visible to the enemy, either in black or green, depending on what was available.

Later, towards the end of the Second World War, an olive drab cape was issued and remained in military use until the 1960s.

This cape is an original from 1945, which was stored in depots by the Greek Army in 1970.

It could be used as :
- a
waterproof underlay -
protection to stay dry - a cape by buttoning up the front.

There are 8 holes along the perimeter of the underlay; it measures 185 cm x 88 cm plus an additional collar flap over the front.
There are 4 buttons at the front and the centre of the back is slightly hollowed out to allow for the carrying of a small rucksack.

Issued to soldiers to keep them dry, it was carried on the outside of a small rucksack when not in use.
The MKVII cape fastens at the front and has a large collar to keep the water out.
You can also construct a shelter to stay dry in the field.
