Developed in the early 1950s, its aim was to offer good freedom of movement, plenty of storage space and the ability to accommodate an inner lining. The M1951 was also an attempt to develop a jacket that could be used both in the field and in barracks. All these features were successfully combined in this jacket.Although it was only produced for a few years, it quickly achieved cult status.The 1951 Field Jacket was made from a 9oz Poplin fabric, which offered very good wind and moisture resistance. The zipper on the front was closed with a heavy talon and covered by a button placket. The inner lining could be attached to the jacket with buttons.
